It was approved, on the last 16th February, the Law no. 7/17, which establishes the legal framework regarding the Network and IT Systems Protection Law, applicable to the Angolan Republic Cyberspace against any attack, IT theft, cyber-attack and computer incident.
Besides providing a broad framework intended to define all the necessary measures intended to protect the Angolan Cyberspace, in particular, those in connection with network encryption and their safety management, the NIPL establishes a range of measures regarding network data protection and location, both applicable to electronic communications public network operators as well as to lead storage providers, deemed as the most vulnerable entities to cyber-attacks.
Additionally, the NIPL provides a detailed regime on data retention as well as a burdensome and costly penalty framework.
A clear evolution regarding IT Law in Angola, this particular legal framework provides a continuous interconnection between the Angolan Data Protection Agency (ADPA) and the National Institute for Communications, although ADPA has not yet been instituted.
The NIPL entered into force on the day of its publication (16th February 2017).
