On 2 December 2012, Portugal and Cape Verde signed a Social Security Convention Revision Agreement, in the city of Mindelo, to promote cooperation in the social security domain, recognizing the need to coordinate the legislation of the two States in this matter. The Decree no. 9/2017, of 22 March, has now approved this Agreement.
The purpose of the Agreement is to review the Convention on Social Security between the Republic of Portugal and the Republic of Cape Verde, signed in the city of Praia, on 10 April 2001, which was approved by the Decree no. 2/2005, of 4 February, aiming to strength the social protection of migrant workers and their families under conditions of equality and reciprocity between the two States.
"The realization of this objective involves deepening the application of measures to coordinate the social security systems of both States, without, however, changing them", as can be seen in the preamble to the diploma.
Finally, we would like to highlight the desire to extend the scope of this international instrument to the legislation on the convergent social protection regime of the public officials in Portugal and the social protection regime for public officials in Cape Verde.
